Japan had a big part to play in World War 2. They were teamed up with Germany and Italy to try and take over the world. Japan is a little country located right outside of Asia. Japan wanted more power in the world then what they had so when they got an opportunity to go at war and take over some land they took it. Hideki Tojo was the leader and General of Japan during World War 2. He was a very bold leader, he had no fear or remorse of the decisions he made during the war. Japans economy was not looking so good during the war because they were spending all their money towards the war. The national goal of Japan in the war was to be powerful and never be threatened again.
During the war Japan had opened themselves to western influences. Japan wanted to see an economic change so they thought the only way to do that is to start a revolution. Japan had a lot of poor people. They mainly farmed all there food. They had plenty of land to farm on. Japan realized that America could be a potential threat to Japan in the future of the war they thought that America would be in the way. Japan had made the biggest mistake in the war by doing that economically. They decided to attack ploural harbor. The Japanese killed over 2,000 American sailors. It was of the biggest sneak attacks in history.
America took that attack very bad they desired to join the war. America had nuclear power so they decided to use it against Japan during the war to make them surrender. They decided to bomb the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 6, 1939 America dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima. There were about 140,000 people that died during Hiroshima. And about 80,000 people died in Nagasaki. That put Japan on their knees, they had to surrender and give up because they could not take no more bombs they could not afford to. The cost to rebuild alone was a lot of money Japan could not afford. Japan needed money to help rebuild so America started to help them by giving them money and help rebuild.
After the war, Japan was still struggling economically and they needed help badly. They owed money to other countries from war. Japans people really suffered after the bombings. Those who didn’t die from the nuclear attacks, died from radiation or other illnesses. Many people were homeless and dying of starvation or depression and killing themselves. The Japanese wanted reparations not handouts. Japan had modernized and regretted going in the war and they new that they made a mistake they were just desperate and in needs bad.
Japan nationalism and leaders was really misguided, if they had some better leadership they could have found a better way to get the needs that they needed and respect from other countries, Instead of being in alliance with Italy and Germany which cost them.

The Atomic Bomb
Micah’s article highlights the motivations Japan had to start World War II. Japan wanted to eliminate or lessen extremes of their country being seen as moderate or obsolete. They entered the war and launched the attacks on Pearl Harbor to show strength against America. Unfortunately for them, this cost them near extinctions as they lost hundreds of thousands lives on the day America attacked and many years following with remnants of radiation, poverty and other illnesses. – Erica Cockfield
